লছমাপুর তিন নম্বর গ্রাম পঞ্চায়েতের প্রধান নান্টু দোলই মঙ্গলবার জানান, “গোটা নভেম্বর মাস জুড়ে জাতীয় সড়ক সংলগ্ন এই গ্রামগুলিতে বেনজির চুরি ছিনতাইয়ের ঘটনা ঘটেছে। তা রুখে দিতে এই অঞ্চলের প্রায় দশটি গ্রামের ২৪০ জন যুবককে নিয়ে আমরা গড়ে তুলেছি রাধানগর গ্রাম সুরক্ষা বাহিনী। ২৪ টি দলে তা ভাগ করে দেওয়া হয়েছে। প্রতিদিন রাত্রি সাড়ে দশটা থেকে ভোর চারটা অবধি দেওয়া হচ্ছে রাতপাহারা। এর ফলে শুধু এই অঞ্চলেই নয়, গত ১২-১৫ দিন ধরে আশেপাশের কোন গ্রামেই আর চুরি ছিনতাইয়ের ঘটনা ঘটেনি।” গ্রামের এক যুবক অভিজিৎ ঘড়া এই পাহারাদার দলের অন্যতম সদস্য। তিনি সোমবার (১৩ ডিসেম্বর) রাত পাহারা দিতে দিতেই জানালেন, “খড়্গপুর গ্রামীণ থানার ওসি স্বয়ং আমাদের সাহায্যের হাত বাড়িয়ে দিয়েছেন। লাঠি, টর্চ, বাঁশি প্রভৃতি সরঞ্জাম তুলে দিয়েছেন।” শুধু তাই নয়, পুলিশ সূত্রেও জানা গেছে, খড়্গপুর গ্রামীণের যে পুলিশ কর্মীরা ৬০ নং জাতীয় সড়কে পেট্রোলিং এর দায়িত্বে থাকেন, তাঁরাও ওই রাত পাহারাদার দলের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ রাখেন। মাঝেমধ্যেই গাড়ি নিয়ে ওই এলাকা ঘুরে যান। সম্মিলিত এই প্রচেষ্টায় বন্ধ হয়েছে চুরি-ছিনতাই। স্থানীয় রাধানগর গ্রামের বাসিন্দা ইন্দ্রনীল নাথের বাড়িতে মাত্র ২০ দিন আগেই চুরি হয়েছিল। তিনি বললেন, “আমার ছেলের মোবাইল, ল্যাপটপ, মানি পার্স সব চুরি করে নিয়েছিল দুষ্কৃতীরা। এরপর, গ্রামবাসীরা মিলে যে সুরক্ষা বাহিনী তৈরি করা হয়েছে রাতপাহারার জন্য, তাতে আমি বা আমার ছেলে থাকি পালা করে। এর ফলে সত্যিই বন্ধ হয়েছে চুরি-ছিনতাই।” পরিস্থিতি এমন হয়েছিল যে, সাধারণ মানুষ বিকেলবেলা কিংবা ভোরবেলাতেও বাড়ি থেকে বের হতে ভয় পেতেন। সবজি ব্যবসায়ীরা ভোর বেলা সবজি নিয়ে বের হতেন না! বাড়ির মেয়েরা বিকেলের পর বাড়ি থেকে বের হতেন না। সাগরিকা দোলই নামে এক মহিলা জানালেন, “বাড়ি থেকে বেরোলেই গা ছমছম করত। এখন সাহস করে বাড়ি থেকে বেরোই”। রাত্রি সাড়ে দশটা থেকে ভোর চারটা অবধি অপরিচিত কাউকে এলাকায় দেখলেই, এখন বাঁশি বেজে ওঠে। ঘিরে ফেলা হয় ওই ব্যক্তিকে। চলে কড়া জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ। নিশ্চিত হলেই ছাড়া হয়। সুমিত চৌধুরী নামে এক ব্যক্তি রবিবার রাতে আত্মীয় বাড়ি থেকে রাধানগরের ওই রাস্তা দিয়ে বাড়ি ফিরছিলেন, কড়া জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের মুখে পড়তে হয়। তবে তিনি খুশি গ্রামবাসীদের এই উদ্যোগে! বললেন, “খুব দরকার ছিল এটা। আগে এই রাস্তা দিয়ে গেলে, আতঙ্কে থাকতাম। ওনারা আমাকে সব জিজ্ঞাসা করে ছেড়ে দিলেন। শুনেছি গত ১২-১৪ দিন ধরে এই এলাকায় চুরি-ছিনতাই হয়নি। মানুষ শান্তিতে ঘুমোচ্ছেন।” আর, এভাবেই শুধু পুলিশ প্রশাসনের উপর ভরসা না করে ঐক্যবদ্ধ হয়েছেন খড়্গপুর গ্রামীণের এই বাসিন্দারা। আর, রাধানগর বা লছমাপুর গ্রাম যেভাবে নিজেদের আত্মরক্ষার তাগিদে ঐক্যবদ্ধ হলেন, তা সত্যিই অন্য অনেক গ্রাম কিংবা এলাকার কাছে এই সময়েও শিক্ষণীয় হয়ে থাকল! মনে করছেন সচেতন নাগরিকরা।
